ELIX Polymers contributes to the transition to a circular economy

ELIX Polymers, one of the leading global providers of ABS resin and derivative solutions, promotes the circular economy and strengthens this commitment with new projects based on responsible innovation.

In 2016, within the framework of its innovation strategy, it launched a new product development and innovation process based on responsible innovation criteria, evaluating values such as sustainability, environmental protection and health-related issues. For this reason, ELIX Polymers adopted a methodology known as Value Sensitive Design (VSD), which permits the systematic evaluation of responsible innovation in new advances by the innovation and development team. Among the initiatives under way in the company’s I&D area, in recent years, considerable importance has been given to the Circular Economy.

"At ELIX, we focus in particular on making a positive contribution to sector initiatives related to recycling and circularity for polymers. We can all learn from others in our sector and together, offer feedback to next-generation technology developers, to make the circular economy a reality", says Antonio Prunera, Head of Business Development and R&D/IP at ELIX Polymers.

ELIX Polymers is currently participating in several sector initiatives that aim to deal with these issues, in defence of the circular economy and its vital importance in protecting the environment. At present, ELIX Polymers participates in the PLAST2bCLEANED project, which is focused on systems for recycling waste electrical and electronic equipment, and more recently, it has joined Styrenics Circular Solutions (SCS), a joint industrial initiative for improving the circularity of styrene polymers with new technologies and solutions promoted by its members.

In addition to the above initiatives, and to again demonstrate its commitment to protecting the environment, since 2017, ELIX Polymers has taken part in the Operation Clean Sweep, an international programme designed to prevent the loss of plastic granules and their release into the environment.
