Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Carbon footprint of ELIX products
E-LOOP includes all of our circular economy initiatives in terms of products, design and services.
We want to be a catalyst for more efficient, locally-implemented short loops for ABS recovery.
Our aim is to be a global leader of reference in the market of highly specialised thermoplastics. With this mission, we've been contributing to the transition towards a circular plastics economy for years, as this is one of the pillars of our business strategy. We are innovating in the area of mechanical recycling and incorporating ISCC-certified raw materials, in order to improve the sustainability of our portfolio without compromising on the quality or performance of the finished product.
Circular plastics and responsible innovation are the strategic programmes of ELIX's sustainable solutions portfolio. Let's close the loop!
At ELIX we participate in international studies and projects related to circular economy, which often involve collaborations with other companies or organizations within our value chain.
ELIX Polymers has ISCC+ certified product portfolio using mass balance model to assure traceability and transparency in the supply chain. Circular and biobased feedstocks are used and the material properties are 100% equal to prime materials.
We are developing solutions using mechanical recycling, a process in which segregated plastic with homogeneous properties is shred for later reuse in manufacturing grades that maintain all the properties and characteristics of virgin materials intact. These are uprecycling strategies. Specifically, we are developing the following products: modified ABS with recycled PC and recycled ABS (standard grade).MORE INFORMATION
We design high-quality solutions integrating the evaluation of sustainability principles that take into account environmental, social and economic aspects through the Value Sensitive Design (VSD) method.
The Value Sensitive Design (VSD) method, at the service of responsible innovation, has become a tool for customer service and customer loyalty
The Value Sensitive Design (VSD) method is a tool for continuous improvement based on product ecodesign criteria which makes it possible to evaluate the impact of a product throughout its entire life, from its phases previous to production until its final elimination when its useful life has come to an end. This method rates the compliance of each solution with respect to a list of environmental (26), social (17) and economic (9) factors. In this way, we can objectively compare the impact of different products. Since we introduced this method we have renewed our catalogue with newer, more sustainable thermoplastics solutions offering greater diversity and quality in the market.
In 2021 we used VSD to evaluate three new projects that form part of the E-LOOP Circular Plastics initiative. All of them incorporate recycled material obtained from chemical or mechanical waste.
At the beginning of 2020 we became members of this joint industry initiative to improve the circularity of styrenes. It involves the creation of new business and collaboration models in order to recover styrene-based plastics for recycling.
We collaborate in this European H2020 programme with various industries throughout the plastics value chain, including recycling and engineering companies, chemical and OEM (final product) industries, as well as centres for technology and research.
Our partnership with Repsol was formalised in October 2020 with a view to developing and cooperating in the chemical recycling of ABS.
ELIX, AnQore and OCI announced that a major European manufacturer of consumer goods will use ELIX E-LOOP ABS to reduce the carbon footprint of its products. The ABS we use is based on Econitrile from AnQore, which in turn is produced using sustainable ammonia from OCI.
